FREE Events This Week

Preschool - 6th grade. Get ready for Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading 10 of his books. Pick up your reading record at the information desk starting Monday, January 24, 2011. Complete the reading record and earn a prize! January 24th - Taylorsville Library

Adults. Does someone you know have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes or cardiovascular disease (heart disease, stroke, or peripheral vascular disease)? Come to this informative talk and learn more about these conditions and how to manage them to reduce risk of heart attack and stroke. No registration required. The last Wednesday of the month during the winter is free admission day at the Hogle Zoo! No coupon or pass needed! Just walk right in! Wednesday January 26th.

Learn the basic facts of cardiovascular disease. The audience will learn how to recognize the common and not-socommon signs and symptoms of heart attacks and strokes and what to do if these occur. Some popular fad diets suggest minimizing or even eliminating this important food group, but grains contain essential nutrients vital for optimal health and weight loss. Join Utah State University’s Food $ense program to learn all about grains—how much is enough and which ones give you the most bang for your buck.  Recipes and food samples will be available as part of the program.
Bring your baby to this special baby sign language storytime. Certified baby sign language instructor Adrienne Donner will teach some basic signs in an entertaining storytime. This is a two week class. No registration required. January 25th @10:30am - Kearns Library

Model Train Show
Friday and Saturday Jan 28th and 29th at Thanksgiving Point. It's FREE for children 11 and under, and adults are only $5.

If you are a mom in the Tooele valley, you don't want to miss this! 80s theme, cake decorating contest, etc!

Sat. January 29th. Come early to the 4th Annual Clearfield City Storytelling Festival! What exactly is Storytelling? Think it is just for kids? It's not! Bring your family and friends and come find out. Admission is free. Get there early to listen to some of Northern Utah's best-known professional storytellers, and some of the best novice tellers share their stories!

Get Ready To Garden
A series of classes at the main Salt Lake City Library downtown. January 29th 10am to 12noon.
A free exhibit all month long at the Magna Zions Bank.

The Wood Carvers' Exhibit is a yearly exhibit, but new pieces are on display each year along with many old favorites. Don't miss out on seeing these beautiful pieces carved in such unique ways.
