National Ability Center

I just found out about this great organization and had to pass it along!
The National Ability Center offers a wide variety of year-round activities, which include alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, swimming, cycling, waterskiing, horseback riding, rafting and camping trips, challenge course activities, leadership development training, and more. Last year individuals participated in 15,545 lessons and outings! Because safety is the first priority, instruction is provided by professional, certified instructors and complemented by volunteer assistants, interns and AmeriCorps members who contribute nearly 27,000 hours annually. Many of the instructors are also individuals with disabilities and serve as role models for our participants.
They even have summer camps coming up!
For many of these kids, they are not able to participate in "regular" activities with kids their age because of their limitations. The National Ability Center gives them this opportunity, and even allows their siblings and friends to participate with them! What a great idea, and a giant kudos goes out to the team of leaders for all they do!

You may have noticed our blog looks a little bit different! I have been looking for a template that I can customize, as well as change up a bit according to the season. I found exactly what I was looking for with Premades For A Purpose. Her designs are SO cute, customizable, and much less than what others were charging for blog design. You may also notice that she creates designs for a great cause.....to raise funds to adopt a sweet baby! Check out Premades For A Purpose.
Our newest series and feature: WHERE WAS IT TAKEN?!
There are three pictures at the top of our blog. Can you guess where they were taken? These pictures will be changed from time to time. Leave a comment below of where you think these pictures were taken.
Previous Pictures:

This is my absolute favorite park! There is something magical about it!
Have fun, and we hope you enjoy this new feature and blog design!

- The "official" name for this tree is "Metaphor: The Tree Of Utah". Karl Momen, a Swedish artist, created it between 1982 and 1986. He financed the project all himself because he wanted to bring color and interest to the stark white landscape. It stands 87 feet high. After completing this tree, Karl Momen returned to Sweden and donated his creation to the state of Utah.

Sunflower Cake For Spring

Michelle P.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011
I saw this cake in Family Fun magazine, and decided to make it. It was tons of fun! :) My definitely turned out different than the Family Fun one, but it was still fun!
Ingredients:Frosted 9 x 13-inch cake
Necco wafers
45-60 yellow and orange Starburst candies
Mini chocolate chips
Green Fruit Streamers
1 pound yellow, orange and clear Gummy Bears
Instructions:
Mosaic vase: Create an outline by cutting an 8-ounce paper cup in half vertically and pressing the cut edge into the frosting. Break 2 Necco wafers in half and set them across the top of the vase. Use 6 or so more Necco wafers, broken into pieces, to fill in the rest of the vase.
Sunflowers: One at a time, microwave 5 yellow and 3 orange Starburst candies until they're pliable, about 8 seconds, and roll them flat between two pieces of waxed paper. Use scissors to cut them into petals (1 to 1-1/2 inches long). You'll need about 15 to 20 per flower. Create an outline for each flower center by lightly pressing the rim of a 3-ounce paper cup into the frosting (for variety, use the cup bottom to create one smaller blossom). Arrange two layers of petals around each circle. Fill the centers with mini chocolate chips. Use doubled green Fruit Streamers strands to create flower stems and leaves.
The frame: Arrange a single row of yellow, orange, and clear Gummy Bears along the top edge of the cake and then make additional rows down the sides.
