Archery World Cup 2012

Leading Archers to Compete for Gold and Last Chance to Qualify for 2012 Summer Games at Archery World Cup in Ogden
Ogden, Utah - Elite archers from more than 30 countries will travel to Ogden to compete in the pivotal third stage of the Archery World Cup, June 18-24, 2012. The third stage also serves as last Olympic Qualification Tournament for recurve archers hoping to advance to the 2012 Summer Games in London this August. The event is free and open to the public.
For the third consecutive year, Ogden will host the only Archery World Cup stage in the Western Hemisphere. Archers will compete for a coveted position at finals during elimination and qualification rounds, June 18-21. Elimination and qualification rounds will begin at 9 a.m. continuing until early evening at a new venue, the Golden Spike Event Center (1000 N. 1200 W., Ogden, Utah 84404).
Individual and team finalists will progress to the medal matches that weekend at picturesque Lindquist Field (2330 Lincoln Ave., Ogden, UT 84401). Athletes will vie for gold, silver and bronze medals during compound finals on Saturday, June 23 with the first arrow shot at 4 p.m., and recurve finals on Sunday, June 24 where the first arrow will be shot at 3 p.m.
“Ogden may be the final selection process for many athletes hoping to qualify and represent their country at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London. The world will watch eagerly as many favorites have not yet qualified,” said Bob Romero, Ogden World Cup organizing committee president.
During the third stage, The USA Archery Team will continue their quest for excellence in men’s, women’s and mixed teams in recurve and compound classes. Record holders, world champions and archers bound for the 2012 London Summer Games will contend for gold. Top USA Team members projected to participate are number one world ranked Brady Ellison (recurve) and gold medalist Rodger Willet Jr. (compound).  Currently, number two world ranked Reo Wilde (compound) will travel to Ogden in hopes of securing his third consecutive World Cup gold medal. A feat only his fellow USA team member Rodger Willet Jr. has accomplished.
The anticipated USA women’s team to watch during the third stage and Olympic Qualifications is four-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig, two-time Olympian Jennifer Nichols and World Indoor Silver Medalists Rookie Miranda Leek. Additionally, Lorig has recently gained fame as she has coached Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence for her archery-focused role as Katniss Everdee in the 2012 release of “The Hunger Games.”
The Archery World Cup consists of three stages, Antalya (TUR), Shanghai (CHN), Ogden (USA). Ogden, Utah was awarded the honor of hosting their third consecutive World Cup stage following successful competitions in 2010 and 2011. The World Cup Finals will commence on September 22-23, 2012 in Tokyo, Japan.
The third stage of the Archery World Cup in Ogden is made possible by partnerships between World Archery, Easton Sports Development Foundations, USA Archery, the Ogden/Weber Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Utah Sports Commission.
