Repertory Dance Theatre presents Time Capsule: A Century of Dance on November 16-17, 2012 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. A guided tour through a 100 year legacy of dance, Time Capsule is a breath-taking multi-media retrospective, paying homage to the ingenuity, creativity and inventive spirit of legendary 20th century choreographers.
Repertory Dance Theatre's prestigious historical repertory highlights the birth and evolution of an art form, and ties each piece to the social and political environment in which it was created. Covering everything from the early years of modern dance to today's finest choreographers, this one of a kind performance not only lives, but breathes, sweats, and leaps.
Looking toward the future, RDT will give young dancers the opportunity to study and perform choreography inspired by Post Modern choreographers that have influenced the innovative work of artists working today. RDT's "Passport to Performance Workshop for Young Dancers" is giving a group of young dancers (ages 13-17) the opportunity to work with and perform on stage with RDT dancers. The young dancers will attend a workshop on two Saturdays in November (registration still open on www.rdtutah.org) where they will create a piece using technique from historical choreographers, including Merce Cunningham. The dancers will then perform the piece as part of Time Capsule: A Century of Dance on November 16 and 17.
From Duncan and Denishawn, the founders of modern dance, through the post-modern and contemporary choreographers of today, this is sure to be the most exciting history lesson you've ever had.
