Utah Voices Christmas Concert

Utah Voices to Mix It Up in
New Christmas Concert Production

Now in its fourth season, Utah Voices will be presenting its Christmas Concert “Welcome, Happy Morn!” An evening of song to mark the birth of Jesus and celebrate the holidays, the concert will be Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.  at Libby Gardner Hall at the University of Utah School of Music, (1375 E. President’s Circle) in Salt Lake City. All seats are general admission at $10 each and recommended for ages eight and older. Tickets and more information are available online at

Probably best described as “not your grandmother’s community choir,” Utah Voices is departing from its three years of Messiah performances this season to present an eclectic repertoire, celebrating the holiday season with songs, carols, and hymns for young and old to enjoy. Among the sacred pieces to be performed are “Come, Thou Long Expected Savior,” “Arise, Your Light Has Come,” O Magnum Mysterium,” and Alfred Burt’s “Star Carol.” The concert lightens up with “A Child’s Christmas” (a lively medley), “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” “Betelehemu” (Nigerian Christmas song), and Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “I Saw Three Ships.”

Artistic Director Dr. Michael Huff peppers the program with a couple of Handel’s choruses from Messiah and other special Christmas numbers and promises some fun surprises with what he calls the “hardest working choir he knows.” Local music professionals, along with Associate Accompanists Carrie Froyd and Carrie Morris will accompany the choir.
