Dia de los Muertos

On Friday, November 1st, BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures’ (MPC) will host a special Day of the Dead event! This “Dia de los Muertos” fiesta will provide an opportunity for members of the community to learn about different cultures and celebratory holidays.

Dia de los Muertos focuses on family gatherings to honor their deceased ancestors. This event will highlight the our newest exhibit, “Nuchu: Voices of the Ute people,” while guests enjoy learning about the Ute people, making new friends, enjoying food and learning more about Hispanic culture as well. Elizabeth Smith, events coordinator at the MPC, said “our day of the dead party is always the highlight of our year! It gives us an opportunity to learn about different cultures while having fun and celebrating an exciting and mysterious holiday.”

This entirely free event is for guests of all ages. The doors open at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There will be touring of exhibits, games, activities, stories and delicious food available to all. Bring your friends, roommates or family members to the MPC to learn about this unique holiday!

The MPC hosts events to serve the academic mission of BYU and care for anthropological, archaeological, and ethnographic collections in the custody of the University. Educating visitors through thrilling events allows the MPC to branch out in creative ways that benefit the BYU community.
